Fall Coats

So I’ve surprised Alex by showing him a bunch of jackets/coats I’ve owned but never worn. However, I am still looking for a medium weight fall coat that I can wear in the fall, and layer for the winter. For some reason I’m stuck on these two J.Crew coats, so please comment and let me know which one you prefer!

Option 1: Bonbon Coat

I’ve been lusting over this coat for weeks. I actually really love the white coat, but I know that will be a terrible idea for me since I always get some kind of sauce or food on myself. The cobblestone color in the first picture is what I’d want to get it in, I’m trying to stray away from black because I have a ton of black outerwear already. It’s made of Italian wool, and seems to be pretty thick, so it would be warm enough for some lighter layering in the winter. Also the shape is pretty simple and classic and would work for years to come. I think my main concern is that the color isn’t as classic of a color. I was actually looking for something camel colored, and the closest they had was warm taupe, which was more pink than camel.

Option 2: Capella Coat

This coat doesn’t look as thick (but really, I can’t even tell because I’ve only seen it in a catalog and online.) It’s a wool cashmere blend and although the shape isn’t as timeless as the first I think it’s still a great simple shape. It’s camel colored, which is what I would want instead of a black coat. I don’t love that the pockets are on the front and I would prefer a high collar or a funnel collar just because when it’s windy out, I like to keep my neck protected even with a scarf tucked under.

Option 2 is cheaper than Option 1, as I like to keep in mind while I’m shopping. The price difference is about $50, so although it’s not a crazy difference, it still is a factor when I’m trying to make a decision. (That’s a week of groceries!)

So… which one do you prefer?
