VillageVines
New York Restaurant Week is upon us and I totally have been caught up in my own world right now and forgot to make reservations. However, my sister told me about VillageVines which is basically like Restaurant Week, all the time! They have a selection of various major cities (NYC, LA, San Francisco, etc) and tons of high end restaurants. Here is how it works: You make a reservation with one of...

Job Hunt
marnisworld: Real World: Shining up the old resume. Trying to make shitty jobs look incredibly important and awesome.  Marni’s World: I am Ashley Olsen. I’ve never had to write a cover letter in my whole life.    I wish I lived in Marni’s world.

Weekend Agenda
I really want to go shopping this weekend, but it’s probably financially a poor decision. So I’ve decided I’m going to catch up on email, laundry, Netflix/Hulu, and bake some cupcakes. Then if I still have free time after that, I might just happen to wander around and buy this: (via Built By Wendy)

Thoughts on Coachella 2011
If you love music the way me and my friends do, then every year you are looking forward to seeing who is playing Coachella. (We are from California, it is probably the biggest music event of the year.) Plus as the first summer festival I think most industry people are so excited to get out of the office and the cold, that they all rush into the sun! So here is the obligatory discussion about who...

Fresh Fruit Tart
This is probably one of the simplest, yet very impressive recipes I’ve ever come across. I used this recipe by Paula Deen (yes, it requires one and a half sticks of butter just for the crust) and used just strawberries and blackberries instead of the ones listed. If you follow the recipe, you’ll notice that you need to use a food processor for the crust and a mixer for the filling....

Holly Wang: i'm listening to the mamas and the papas
Ambreen Razaq: i dunno what that is
Holly Wang: are you serious? dancing in the street? they're old
Ambreen Razaq: i dont know old music
Holly Wang: you don't know 60s music?
Ambreen Razaq: uh no
Ambreen Razaq: yeah i mean you're talking to the girl who forgot stevie nicks was in fleetwood mac
Holly Wang: WHAT!
So from now on, once a week I will be providing a brief history of a band I enjoy that was formed before the year 2000 - dedicated to my friend Ambreen.

– from MacRumors.com This makes me really happy, not because I want to switch over to Verizon, but because hopefully that will convince some iPhone users to switch over. I’ve had an iPhone since the first generation, so my plan on AT&T allows me to have an unlimited data plan, however new...

Required Reading: Audio Culture
So these days I don’t tend to read as much as I know I can. So I’m going to try to read at least one book a month. This month, I’m re-reading an old school book, Audio Culture. It’s a book of essays by some of my biggest inspirations, including: John Cage, Brian Eno, Pierre Schaeffer, Pauline Oliveros, Glenn Gould, and John Zorn. (Major points for anyone that knows those...

WSJ: Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior  →
jessicachu: Chinese parents believe that they know what is best for their children and therefore override all of their children’s own desires and preferences. That’s why Chinese daughters can’t have boyfriends in high school and why Chinese kids can’t go to sleepaway camp. It’s also why no Chinese kid would ever dare say to their mother, “I got a part in the school play! I’m Villager...
